Youth Work and Community Wellbeing – help people feel part of their community

If you want to work with young people and bring communities together, this program could be a good fit. You’ll learn to organize youth activities, run community projects and help people get involved in decisions that affect them.

What will you learn?

  • Working with young people. Understand their development and the communities they belong to.

  • Bringing people together. Plan group activities and help people take part, including those who find it harder to get involved.

  • Building partnerships. Work with organizations, schools and public services on shared projects.

  • Improving your work. Use research and feedback to assess activities and make them more useful.

  • Supporting equal participation. Apply human rights and equality principles in everyday youth and community work.

How will you study?

You’ll combine classes and team projects with excursions and practical activities. During your studies, you’ll complete four internship periods, in Finland or abroad.

This is a full-time program taught in English in Helsinki: 210 ECTS credits over 3.5–4 years, including summer terms. Classes on campus usually run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. You’ll graduate with a Community Educator (Bachelor of Humanities) degree.

Learn Finnish during your studies

Finnish courses are part of the program. They will help you prepare for internships and for working with local young people and communities.

On Humak’s website, the program also appears as Wellbeing and the Futures of Youth and Community Work – it’s the same program.
