Combine two Master's programs from two universities to get the ultimate international experience. Bamberg University focuses on the specializations ‘Empirical Social Research’ and ‘Education, Labour Market, Inequality’. Tilburg University focuses on translating societal problems into sociological research to evaluate and derive policies.

Get two full Master's degrees in Sociology by studying at two outstanding academic institutions in Europe. You will spend your first year in Bamberg (Germany) and your second year in Tilburg.  Gain in-depth knowledge about sociological theory and empirical social research by combining the Sociology Master’s programs from the University of Bamberg (Germany) and Tilburg University. The program at Bamberg University focuses on empirical social research, education, labour market, and inequality. The program at Tilburg University focuses on translating societal problems into sociological research to evaluate and create policies.

  • You will receive interactive education with individual thesis supervision.
  • You only write one Master's thesis.
  • Expand your knowledge and practical skills by doing an Extended Master. During this extra semester, you do an internship worth 30 ECTS (half a year) and gain relevant work experience.
  • The program is very flexible, which means you can tailor your program to your interests and create a unique and individual profile.
  • At Tilburg University, you will follow the  Sociology: Politics, Policy and Society in Comparative Perspective track.

This track focuses on translating societal problems into sociological research from both micro (family, social networks, crime) and macro perspectives (welfare state, solidarity) in order to evaluate current policy and to derive new ones.

Wymagania rekrutacyjne

Na studia magisterskie mogą kandydować wszyscy, którzy ukończyli studia licencjackie lub inżynierskie (studia I stopnia), studia magisterskie lub studiują na ostatnim roku studiów I-stopnia. Studia, które planujesz powinny mieć zbliżony profil do tych obecnych lub ukończonych, ponieważ w procesie rekrutacji kluczowa jest ich zgodność programowa.

For the Double Degree Program in Sociology, applicants have to:
Meet the admission criteria of the "M.A. Soziologie" at the University of Bamberg, i.e.

  • Hold a higher education degree with a minimum of 30 ECTS accumulated in Sociology, of which at least 10 credits are connected to sociological fundamentals and 10 credits are connected to methods of quantitative empirical social research or statistics.   
  • With a grade point average of at least 2.5 on the German grading scale or equivalent.
  • Document A1-level German language skills (which can be obtained during the first year).

Meet the admission criteria of the Master's Program in "Sociology" at Tilburg University, i.e.:

  • Hold a Bachelor’s or a Master’s degree in a relevant discipline, e.g. the field of sociology, social sciences, or humanities.
  • Be sufficiently conversant in the social sciences e.g. knowledge of and practice in the application of (key) questions of sociology and of classical and modern sociological theories; basic knowledge of other social sciences e.g. psychology and economics.
  • Possess adequate knowledge of social science statistics and research methods.

As a graduate of the Double Degree program in Sociology with the University of Bamberg, you can be employed as a researcher, policy officer, advisor, or in management. You could work in a wide range of fields, including labor and employment, culture, welfare, recreation, education and healthcare.
