International Public Policy and Leadership (IPPL) is a four-year degree programme which equips students with a broad skillset enabling them to work within the public sector, non-profit organisations, or even the private sector.

Many students join our programme with the desire to improve pressing and complex global issues, often relating to human rights, peace and security, international trade or global warming.
The multifaceted nature of these international problems makes them difficult to define since they may be of a global nature and involve various factors. Therefore, it’s crucial that we not only understand these challenges, but are able to provide effective and actionable solutions to stop them.

If you want to deepen your knowledge in a number of subjects, work on addressing global problems, whilst developing critical thinking and analytical skills, the IPM programme could be for you.
We’re located in The Hague, Europe’s city of peace and justice, which attracts many international organisations and students, from within Europe and as far afield as Asia, Africa and USA. This makes IPM a much richer learning experience.

On graduation, you could find work locally or internationally as a programme or project manager, consultant, analyst, civil servant or policy maker, in public and private sectors. Over 60% of our graduates go on to pursue a masters degree.

During the IPM programme, you’ll learn how to think critically to create tangible and effective solutions to ultimately improve the wellbeing of citizens and the environment.
In year one, you’ll engage in a range of subjects required in IPM, including economics, international law, sociology, public management and more. In year two, you’ll begin to apply your knowledge in projects and case studies addressing international political cases. The last two years of the programme you’ll tackle the current environment where government institutions and multinationals struggle. The programme culminates in an applied research project in year three and an internship and thesis in year four.

More than 60% of IPM graduates pursue post-graduate qualifications. The majority of students wishing to pursue a master’s degree abroad are able to do so without a bridging course or qualification. However, you need to check with the given institution to determine entry requirements.

You should note that academic universities in the Netherlands require you to follow a pre-master’s programme after graduating from THUAS. Therefore, IPM offers you the opportunity to complete a pre-master’s degree in year three of the IPM programme which then qualifies you to be admitted to the Public Administration master’s degree programme at Leiden University, for example. Do keep in mind that you may need to meet certain grade requirements i.e. an average grade of 7.5.

Specifically, 63% of our IPM graduates pursue a pre-master's and then a master's degree in Public Administration at Leiden University in the Netherlands. Moreover, 8% pursue a master's in International Relations or War and Conflict Studies, 5% in Crisis and Security Management, Cyber/IT studies or Law.
