You will use your technological expertise to come up with smart, practical solutions designed to make life more comfortable, easier, better and sometimes even completely different. You will be taught in modern labs by top scientists eager to share the latest scientific developments with you.
From the very start, you will be putting what you learn into practice. You will work with others in multidisciplinary teams, research and analyse until you have found the core of the problem. Then you will move ahead to develop solutions that will make a real difference. In the past, CreaTe students have come up with designs for a walker frame for children, a sweatshirt that displays the mood you are in, and an Internet of Things Escape Room, among many other things. Just like them, you, too, will soon be creating tech solutions that are smartly thought-through, creatively designed and socially relevant.
A UNIQUE ACADEMIC PROGRAMME
Creative Technology is one of the very few academic programmes worldwide which combines user interaction with cutting-edge technology and creative design. Taught entirely in English, this Bachelor's programme will give you an edge in today's internationally oriented society. You will work with students from all over the world, giving the programme an international flair and making it all the more interesting. The University of Twente is the only true campus university in the Netherlands. This means that all student housing, educational facilities and other amenities (entertainment, culture and sports) are situated in a single location. You’ll find that studying at the University of Twente is a personal and easy-going experience. Plus, life in Twente is considerably cheaper than elsewhere in the Netherlands.
Thanks to a unique collaboration between the two universities, you can study CreaTe at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU Amsterdam) or at the University of Twente (UT) in Enschede from September 2023. Do you opt for Amsterdam? Then you will follow most of the lectures at VU Amsterdam. A few days a month you will travel to Enschede to work on larger projects with UT students and make use of high-tech labs on the UT campus. Do you choose Enschede as your study location? Then you will study at UT and work in the research labs on the Enschede campus.

RESEARCH, DESIGN AND MANAGEMENT
This Bachelor's programme will develop your skills in research, design, and management, enabling you to discover where your own strengths lie. Here are some examples of capacities in which you might be working in your future role as a:
Researcher: as a university researcher you might look into how people behave when a robot takes over some functions. How do people react and what kind of features should the robot have? And how can speech recognition be integrated effectively into a robot?
Designer: in the entertainment industry there is a growing need for ‘serious game’ designers (meant for training, education and public interest purposes). Among the most needed are specialists in storytelling, styles & visuals or interaction, and those with experience in the design of ‘serious game’ tools.
Manager: you might find a job as a Creative Engineer in the R&D department of a major multinational, where you would be managing a team of engineers working on the products of the future. You and your team would need to ensure that the products are aesthetically appealing and that they address human needs, and you would need the business acumen to be able to promote your products’ benefits based on their underlying ideas.
