Why study Drama and Acting?

Our BA(Hons) Drama and Acting will give you a firm foundation in all aspects of theatre making,  but with an emphasis on acting throughout. It balances a practical focus with underlying acting theory. You will look at the connections between performance, philosophy, psychology and historical context. There is a strong focus on employability throughout the course.

Why study this course?

Drama and Acting is based on Bristol's historic waterfront at the Arnolfini. Situated above this internationally renowned centre for contemporary art you will be at the heart of Bristol's creative and cultural community, with access to UWE Bristol's City Campus and all it has to offer.

You will have great enthusiasm, a love of live performance and a willingness to work hard and be challenged. Ours is a supportive theatre community, where staff and students work closely together, sharing ideas and collaborating on many productions. Our graduates emerge as independent, confident and highly creative individuals who can operate in the real world.

Real-world experience

You will have opportunities to create new performances, either as an actor, director, technician or writer. Each year we hold the New Performance Festival at The Brewery Theatre. This is a professional showcase of new work written and devised by our current students and recent graduates. Our students can attend specialist workshops given by staff or practitioners in our regular Performance Lab series. We are part of Bristol's vibrant culture, with regular exchanges between the University and the local theatre network. All our staff are active practitioners or researchers. We have state-of-the-art studios at UWE Bristol's Bower Ashton campus, as well as a 200 seat theatre in the centre of Bristol at the Arnolfini.

Where it can take you

With the skills they have developed, our graduates go on to a wide range of careers in theatre, television, film, education and business (including marketing). Many progress to further study, such as at Drama School (including LAMDA and RADA), Creative Writing MAs, and PGCEs.

Listen to student Kathryn Underwood talking about the different drama activities you can do outside lectures and workshops.
